What the committee means by
demonstration of public service.
Are you a good candidate to become a Ziemba Scholar?
From Carl Ziemba's Last Will and Testament:
"I direct that the Trustee award such scholarships to students who have
done their undergraduate studies at Wayne State University and who
have achieved a respectable record of scholarship in their
undergraduate collegiate studies at Wayne State University and who do
not have the financial capabilities to pay their tuition through law school
and whose parents also lack financial capabilities to pay the required
tuition for the student. I direct that no standard of sex, race, nationality,
ethnicity or religion be established as qualifications for the awarding of
any scholarship. It is my will that the Trustee’s judgment as to whom
the scholarships shall be awarded be final."
As an additional criterion, the committee looks for those applicants who
have demonstrated a commitment to public service, public interest and
service to those in need. This criterion is in keeping with the legacy of
Carl Ziemba who dedicated much of his time to this uncompensated
service to his community.
